1986 VW GTI – 2x SCCA H-Production Class Champion

1986 VW GTI Race Car – 2x SCCA H-Production Class Champion, 2x Runner Up

$20,000, Chicago area

Initially built for Improved Touring B. Central Division Champion. Current lap record holder at Blackhawk, 2:51.x at Road America, qualified on the front row of the ARRC on it’s lone trip to Road Atlanta.

Converted to H-Production for 2017 season. The car did have a big incident at the Kink in the June Sprints that year that required clipping the front (forward of the firewall). Proceeded to finish 2nd at the Indy Runoffs.

Finished 1st or 2nd in every Runoffs race completed. Track records at VIR, Blackhawk and Milwaukee Mile, 3 wins at H-Production Invitational.

HP wins at every track it has competed on: Blackhawk, Road America, Milwaukee Mile, Grattan, St. Louis, Mid-Ohio, VIR, Ozark International. This car has raced with the best of the best in H-Prod competition – Sargis, Bartell, Isley, Prather, Mathis, Silegren, Benazick, Brannon, Vickerman, Meller.

This car also is NOT a perfect show quality car. We built this car from a Northern Illinois street car 25 years ago. It is a solid racing platform, with a cage integrated into all the right places, but there is also some rust underneath the car. BUT if you want to go racing without wondering if the car is slowing you down, this car is as pointy end as you will find for sale.

I will be racing this car this season, and will deliver to the new owner in exactly the same configuration I am racing it. We will be happy to load it onto your trailer from the podium at Blackhawk or Mid-Ohio (or wherever) this season.

There are countless other custom developed details in this car. If you are interested I highly recommend meeting us at a race event so we can go through the car in extreme detail together.

That wonderful feeling climbing the esses at VIR.

Yes - Welded Differential.
"Welded diffs are diabolical in the rain"
Overall Prod group win in the rain at Blackhawk, including Brakke and Schreyer - lapping all but 2 cars

The first session under 2:40 at Road America with some of my HProd friends.
We missed the setup a bit on the loose side. Pay attention to throttle application - hard on the gas early makes the locker easy to drive.
