H Production and the HPNPC

H Production; a brief history

H Production (HP) is one of the Sports Car Club of America’s (SCCA) road racing Production classes. Production classes are for series-produced cars (basically cars that started life as street vehicles) that are allowed a range of performance modifications while keeping their original design and general layout.

HP has the smallest power output of the three Production car classes. One of the original SCCA classes, HP was once the domain of sports cars, like the Austin-Healey Sprite, with an engine displacement of less than 1,000cc. As the automobile landscape changed, so did the class. Newer sedans and sports cars with larger engines were added to HP, prepared to what are known as “Limited Prep” rules that restrict engine and suspension modifications and use weight, cam lift and compression to equalize the broad range of cars in the class.

About the HPNPC

Now it its 6th season, the H Production National Points Championship (HPNPC) is back for more fun and to continue the growth and preservation of the H Production class.

Top 7 finishes from all event types will count with points multipliers and bonus points would be given for poles, new lap records, and # of HP cars you beat in the race. Bonus points will also be given for new builds for 2026 and for cars that have been parked and not raced for 5 or more years. These points will be awarded for the first race finish of the car. The points multipliers are the same as 2025. 1x for 1-4 starters in HP, 1.5x for 5-9 starters, 1.75x for 10+ starters, and the Runoffs and HP invitational will be 2x.

End of season contingencies/prizes, including the RoadKeeper Rookie of the Year will be awarded. The 2026 HP Invitational (HPI) event will be located at Mid-Ohio on Aug 7-9, and we will hold the HP Hall of Fame induction ceremony there that weekend as well. The HPI will have the comradery of the Runoffs with the casual atmosphere of a local event. There will be a Saturday evening BBQ party for the class to mingle and the Sunday race will carry double points, have prizes available, and give us a chance to see each other besides just the Runoffs. More details to come, but please try to attend this special event if you are able to!

Continuing in 2025 is a Regional Only subset to the championship. Points from the regional events will be tallied separately. Drivers who run Majors/Super Tours are eligible for the regional championship, but only the points from the regional races count towards that sub-championship. There will be prizes allocated for the top finishers regardless of where they finish in the total HPNPC standings.

Official rules will be emailed out to those who register at the end of January, and any entries after that will receive the rules shortly after they register. The final date to register is March 31. If you raced between Jan 1 and Mar 31, and register after you raced, your points will be added retroactively. Standings will be posted online.

To register, click on the link below.

There is a one-time registration fee of $75 to enter the championship. Additional donations to support the series are very much welcome as well! Money will be used for cash + gift card awards (season-long and door prizes), longest tow awards, trophies, decals/patches, etc. A full break-down of the use of these fees can be requested at any time. To register, please fill out the form below, and at some point in 2026, you will be emailed with (4) options for paying the registration fee.

This is IN ADDITION to the normal SCCA points system and is meant to be fun and increase camaraderie and competition — it does not replace or undermine the Regional, Conference or Super Tour points championships in any way.
